At Last, Ini Edo's Little Secret Exposed

Ini Edo may be the biggest actress Akwa Ibom State and indeed the South-South can boast of at the moment but those who know her say the name "Edo" is not her real name as she may have been ashamed of bearing her father's name.  We gather from close family sources that her father, though happy with her success, is not comfortable with her for changing his name and rubbishing his family name.

We learnt that her real surname is Ekim (Darkness). While she was struggling to break into the movie industry, she believed that a name like Darkness would not augur well, hence she first changed the name to Unwana (Light). But later, she was advised by close friends to look for a more funkified name and after muling for sometime, she decided to settle for the name - Edo, which to her is sweet and sharp and does not have to do with darkness at all.

No doubt the new name played some roles in her rise in the industry as people easily identified with it because of its "funkified" nature. Who knows if the other name - Ekim, would not have affected her negatively in the long run.  It was a good decision, if you ask me.
