Man Dies at Home for Lack of N5,000 Medical Bill

Main entrance gate of Lagos University Teaching Hospital
After making frantic efforts to get medical help in several hospitals in Lagos but was rejected because he could not afford to pay N5,000 deposit, Cross River State-born Samuel Oyoma returned home dejected and gave up the ghost in his room. It was a pathetic sight at Chris Oladunni Street, Ejigbo, as neighbours gathered in groups to discuss the sad incident.

I gathered that the late Samuel had earlier sent his family to his home state when his financial problems became precarious. He had promised to bring them back to Lagos as soon as things get better, but that promise can no longer be fulfilled.

He was said to have tried borrowing the said N5,000 from fellow neighbours who also turned him down. I heard that men of the Ejigbo Divisional Police Headquarters have arrested some of his neighbours and his landlord for questioning... This is such a sad development. It is so disheartening to hear how fellow Nigerians loss their lives because of poverty yet our political and religious leaders live in stupendous affluence. God bless Nigeria!
