The federal government on Tuesday launched its much talked about youth empowerment scheme tagged ‘You WiN’, as part of efforts to encourage young Nigerians to develop their entrepreneurial skills. The programme, which is a collaboration of the Ministries of Finance, Communication Technology and Youth Development, is expected to run for three years as a competition. It’s coming with an annual Business Plan Competition (BPC) for aspiring young entrepreneurs in Nigeria.
The objective of the programme is to attract ideas and innovations from young enterprising Nigerians. It will provide a one-time equity grant for about 1,200 selected aspiring entrepreneurs to start or expand their business concepts, with a view to mitigate start up risks. The target is to generate between 40,000 to 50,000 new jobs and reduce the number of unemployed youths in Nigeria.
Since this is not the first time government will be coming up with "schemes", we'll be watching keenly to see how far this latest initiative would go in addressing the challenges on ground.
