Friday rolls around quickly doesn't it, bet your all glad? We are off on our honeymoon to China tomorrow!! Yay!!! Exciting. But there will still be posts going up so don't forget to check in often. Anyway onto this weeks Friend Friday post. Today we are discussing 'Blogger Self Promotion' and how other bloggers feel about it. You can find all the other ladies posts over on Modly Chic.
1. How do you promote your blog?
Well I have a Facebook and a Twitter account but I don't really do a huge amount of stuff with them, I just post the links to any new posts I do. I also add my link into comments. This seems to have been one of the things that other bloggers don't actually like, or at least that is what has come up in our discussions this week. I think there is a fine line between doing this correctly and abusing it. A few ladies say they have noticed lots of people spamming in this way. I will nearly always add my link in because it makes it quick and easy for people to find my blog. I am not the type of person who simple adds one or two word comments though. I don't see what I do as spamming as I will always aim to leave an engaging comment or something helpful even. My little link fits neatly under my comment and isn't intrusive like some peoples. I am also a member of a few communities, like the FBFF ladies

2. In your experience what has been the most effective form of self promotion?
Community Challenges are great. Kendi's 30 for 30 challenge this summer was great for promoting my blog and I gained quite a few new readers from this. Some of them have actually become really good friends as well. Posting my links for consideration in the Links a la Mode on IFB has also been a great way to reach new readers. I have been lucky enough to be chosen 3 times in the last few weeks and have seen a drastic increase in my visitors.
3. Do you think there is a wrong way to promote yourself and your blog?
'Follow me', 'I am following you, follow me back please' and 'Follow me and I'll follow you back' these are all very very wrong!!! If I see this comment I delete it and will not visit the blog. It is rude and shows that the blogger is only interested in followers and stats, which is totally against the idea of blogging. It ruins our whole ethos.
4. When it comes to others pushing their product what annoys you?
Adding your link a million times in the comments!! Do it once, I don't mind, but why do you need to add it any more?? I know of a number of bloggers who add their link 3 times in comments for no reason other then to have more pixel space exposure. I really annoys me. I also don't like people randomly emailing me just to draw attention to their post (which isn't even interesting half the time!) and I will usually block their email and will not visit their site. I am also not a fan of people who are constantly pushing their stores on their blog. Granted it is a great way to promote your business but you don't need updates everyday of your products (and how they are made, and how they can be incorporated into outfits and how they look hanging from trees or mirrors or door handles!!) or shop view widgets all over the place.
5. In Dressful's post on this topic earlier in the week she said, "It's impossible to respect someone who wants all the attention, but adds nothing worthwhile to the conversation." Do you agree?
I think I would agree. She does pick up on the people who add links like I do, but I hope that maybe I do add something to the conversation. I will post interesting and involved comments and my posts are of a decent standard (I hope!) But I know exactly where she is coming from. I hate one or two word comments (unless they are coming from long time readers who I know then I know that they are not being rude or insincere) it is just so lazy to just say 'nice' or 'fun post' especially if there are open questions or a topic of discussion in the text. It shows that they haven't really read the post at all, just looked at the photos. So in this sense I would agree, if a blogger is just spamming/commenting one or two words on 100's of blogs with their link, then obviously they aren't adding anything to the conversation and are only after stats. If this is the case then 'no' I don't respect them as bloggers!
