Displaying placards with inscriptions like: “we are not guilty of rape, give us a fair hearing, spread the truth not lies, we are God’s own university, do not spoil the integrity of ABSU, we are innocent”, students of Abia State University (ABSU) on Thursday marched through the Senate building to protested accusation that the rape video circulating on social network platforms happened in their school.
The protesters, who were received by the Dean of Student's Affairs, argued that neither the victim nor the rapists are students of the institution. Some of the students supported their claims with what they described as 'the victim's utterances during the act'.
The Students Union President of ABSU, Christian Afulike, told journalists that the demonstration became necessary to inform the world of their innocence as these malicious accusations are damaging to the integrity of the students and the institution.
