At least 5,000 people were forced from their homes in and over 400 admitted into emergency shelters when a roaring wildfire raced through rain-starved farmlands in Central Texas on Sunday, destroying about 500 homes. The rapid advancement of the fire was fanned by howling winds from the remnants of 'Tropical Storm Lee'.
In an area called Gladewater, a 20-year-old woman and her 18-month-old daughter died when the fast-moving wildfire gutted their mobile home. Although the main fire was contained on Monday by resilient firefighters, several other blazes continued to burn in at least four other counties in Central and North Texas.
Officials remained uncertain as to how the blaze began, but it appeared that two fires merged "from nowhere" to form the wildfire... But what's happening to America? Its citizens are yet to recover from the devastation of the last hurricane, and now this one.
