The federal government has been applauded by the US Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Terrence McCulley, for her decision to recognise the rebel-led National Transitional Council (NTC) as the legitimate government in Libya, saying Nigeria’s decision was apt for the speedy development of the war-torn country.
“With regard to Nigeria’s decision, we rather salute its decision. It has established itself on the continent and as a member of the UN Security Council, its decision which came quickly was the right one and we salute its leadership,” Mr. McCulley told thisday.
So far, reactions are sharply divided over what critics have termed “Nigeria’s hasty recognition of Libyan rebels”, since the African Union was yet to take an official position.
