The 2011 edition of the Headies - formerly known as the Hip-Hop World Awards - held at the Expo Hall, Eko Hotel and Suites on Saturday October 22, 2011. The outcome of the awards have been generating mixed reactions since Saturday night. While some people are hailing the organizers for giving recognition to those who truly deserve same, critics are questioning the rationale behind the choices this year.

2face Idibia carted away the statuettes in the major categories at the 2011 edition of the Headies. The multiple award winning singer opened his account late in the show having lost some earlier announced categories but eventually nicked the Best R&B/Pop Album, Album of the Year and Artiste of the Year prizes.
Other multiple winners were Darey, Best R&B Single and The Recording of the Year, both with ‘The Way You Are’; and Chocolate City rappers, MI and Ice Prince, also taking home two Headies apiece. While MI bagged the Best Collaboration and Best Rap Album statuettes, Ice won in the Bet Rap Single and Song of the Year categories. Mo’Hitians Dr. SID and Don Jazzy both got prizes for the super music imprint. Don Jazzy won the Producer of the Year and Dr.SID took home the statuettes for the Best Pop Single with ‘Pop Champagne’ and The Revelation of the Year.
Super lyricist, Modenine won the Lyricist on The Roll for the sixth successive year while the coveted Next Rated award and car prize went to pop rave of the moment, Wizkid. Show host, eLDee also won $10,000 along with the statuette for Best Conscious Music, while Waje took home the award for the Best Female Vocalist and Jah Bless’s Jor O (remix) won the Best Street Hop category. The Recognition Award was given to Juju music legend, Sir Shina Peters
