In the course of last week, the General Overseer of Synagogue Church, Prophet T.B. Joshua, predicted that Nigeria's Super Eagles will not qualify for the 2012 Nation cups. But many sports stakeholders didn’t take the man of God’s word seriously. Some of the players even made attempts to visit him for prayers but where rebuffed by officials of NFA (abi is it NFF) who brought in another prophet to 'pray' for them.
At the end of the day, the result is clear for all doubting Thomas’ to see; Nigeria drew their most crucial match at the Abuja National Stadium on Saturday against Guinea. Hence, we blew away our chance of qualifying for the most prestigious competition for Africans. Reacting to the earlier prophesy by T.B. Joshua, Osaze Odemwingie said...
“Yes, I would say I am sorry to Nigerians for not playing according to expectation and I believe I did not play well in the match. But the prediction of Prophet TB Joshua really affected us. We thought we could see him and see how he could overturn the negative prediction but the officials came with another prophet who prayed for us and told us that all was well. But in all we did not do our own bit of the job well as players and we are not happy that we won’t play at the forthcoming Nations Cup.”In his own reaction during a LIVE church service on Sunday, the man of God described himself as a light that people have been trying to kill for over 20 years without success. He urged Osaze and other players to take heart, saying: "Osaze my brother, I love Nigeria more than you." He asked Nigerians not to forget in a hurry his other predictions which favoured the Super Eagles. He also has some prophesy for the many crises currently troubling Nigeria, but I'll bring that much later.
Coach Samson Siasia has however tendered an apology to Nigerians over the loss: “We want to apologise to all Nigerians. We have not qualified for the Nations Cup and we take responsibility as a team. We did our best, we dominated the game, we created chances, but we failed to take our chances and we gave up a last minute goal. We understand the frustration of the fans because they love their team so much. But sometimes, football can be cruel.”
