Marriage Crisis! Husband Denies Wife's Pregnancy in Court

Judiciary correspondents and observers were treated to a perfect mixture of laughter and cry inside a Court room on Wednesday when a housewife, Mrs. Fatsuma Sagir, was openly denied by her husband, Malam Sagir Mohammed. But what could have led this man to put up such strong resistance against his wife since it is on record that he legally married the women?

The story: Mrs. Fatsuma had approached the...
Pantami Upper Area Court in Gombe, after her husband allegedly impregnated and abandoned her for months. She alleged that not only did he refuse to cater for her after the pregnancy, he even collected her N200,000 as a loan which he has failed to refund till date.

Speaking further, Mrs. Fatsuma said she took ill on September 16 and went to the hospital where a doctor prescribed some expensive drugs for her. But to her surprise, her husband, Malam Sagir, gave a paltry N200, which, according to her, could not afford the drugs. She said he continued to dodged his responsibilities to her, hence her decision to bring the matter before the court.

On his part, Malam Sagir vehemently denied the claim that he impregnated her, saying he had divorced Mrs. Fatsuma since September 22, 2009. His counsel, Mr. Mohammed Magaji, also reiterated that Malam Sagir cannot be responsible for the woman’s pregnancy based on his submission.

He also urged the court to direct Mrs. Fatsuma to produce evidence(s) of a financial transact between she and his client on the next hearing date. He stressed that his client is a responsible citizen and would not have engaged in such fraudulent practices.

The court upheld his prayers and the complainant, Mrs. Fatsuma, promised to present three witnesses before the court by the next sitting to back up her claim. Presiding Judge, Khadi Mohammed Usman, thus adjourned the case for further hearing.

But na wa for this kind case o! Could it be that the ‘wife’ is simply on some sort of revenge mission or it is the ‘husband’ who is being economical with the truth? Well, whoever may be telling lies, I guess the judge will help solve the puzzle at the end of the case.
