Nigerian Woman Steals Cloths, Kills Single Mother in London

From London comes a very disheartening report that one Lola Olayemi, a 35 year-old lady, is engaging in criminal activities with the potential of seriously dragging the name of our dear country Nigeria in the mud. The petty criminal was said to have embarked on a shoplifting spree in the city of Reading, London, without being spotted by anyone. But while driving away after committing the crime, she could not...
maintain concentration on the road and as a result killed a single mother and injured her 9-year-old son through reckless driving.

The victim, late Miss Catriona Scoot and her son were standing under a shelter at the bus-stop when Mrs. Olayemi smashed her Toyota RAV 4 into the bus shelter. Following the offences, Mrs. Olayemi was charged her before a Reading Magistrate Court last week where she ‘cleverly’ pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving.

The petty thief also admitted to stealing £300 worth of clothes from Debenhams. The presiding Magistrate, Judge John, told Olayemi who had previous convictions for theft that if he was to give her a prison sentence, based on the prevailing laws of the jurisdiction, she would end up serving only six weeks in prison for the death of Mrs. Scoot.

The Judge reasoned that such ‘small’ sentence would serve no justice whatsoever and would cause the family of late Miss Scott to wrongly believe that six weeks imprisonment was the price a reckless driver had to pay for the life of their daughter.

But since the petty criminal was not found to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs and her mobile phones were said to inside a bag in the back seat of her car as at the time of the accident, the judge was left with no other option but to sentence her to a 12-month community service. He said she would also undertake 240 hours of unpaid work, coupled with an additional 60 hours for the shoplifting offence. According to sources, Mrs. Olayemi left the court ‘pretending’ to be sober.

Reacting to the sad development, late Miss Scott's 71-year-old father, George, said her death has caused a lot of upset in his life and that of her son, Miles. He had to relocate into his late daughter’s house so as to ensure that the young boy's life remained on track. “I have no life now, my life centres around my grandson and trying to ensure that he can get over his problems as soon as possible,” said Mr George, a widower... May the soul of the dead rest in peace, Amen!
