The head office of MultiChoice Nigeria, owners of DSTV Cable Television, was on Tuesday shut down by the Lagos State government over unremitted tax amounting to about N150 million. The office was sealed off by officials of the state Internal Revenue Service, after the organisation failed to remit the money to the government.
Special Adviser to Governor Babatunde Fashola on taxation and revenue, Bola Shodipo, while confirming the closure stated that the action was carried out to compel MultiChoice to fulfil its obligation to the government. He expressed displeasure at the rate of indebtedness in taxes of organisations in the state, adding that such practices are undermining the efforts of government.
A reliable source hinted that discussions are ongoing between both parties, and this might lead to an early re-opening of the office... DSTV please go and pay your tax, you people don't waste time to disconnect me whenever my subscription expires, so lead by example.
