Silent Film Star: Pearl White "Stunt Queen".

Pearl White (March 4, 1889 – August 4, 1938), was called "Stunt Queen" of silent films. She began performing with the Diemer Theater Company, while in her second year of high school. In 1907, at age 18, she went on the road with the Trousedale Stock Company.

She made her film debut starring in a series of one-reel dramas and comedies for the Powers Film Company.

In 1910, White was offered a role by Pathé Frères in, The Girl From Arizona, the French company's first American film. She then worked at Lubin Studios and several other of the independents, until the Crystal Film Company gave her top billing in a number of short films.

In 1914, Pathé director Louis J. Gasnier offered her the starring role in The Perils of Pauline, a film based on a story by playwright Charles W. Goddard. The film was one where "Pauline" was the main character in a story with many stunts, which Pearl White, was perfect for for. The Perils of Pauline consisted of twenty episodes





The movie made White a major celebrity, and she followed this with an even bigger box-office winner, The Exploits of Elaine.

White made four more successful serials on the same theme. She did much of her own stunt work and she suffered injuries that would force her to use a stunt double in her later films.

Silent Film Star: Dorothy Sebastian.

Fun Fact:

Dorothy Sebastian, went into semi-retirement in the mid-1930s after marrying Hopalong Cassidy star, William Boyd. After their divorce in 1935, Sebastian attempted a comeback, performing in much smaller parts. In 1947, Sebastian married businessman Harold Shapiro, to whom she remained married until her death.

Silent Film Star: Dolores del Río. "Princess of México".

Dolores del Río (August 3, 1905 – April 11, 1983) was a Mexican film actress. She was a star of Hollywood films during the silent era and in the Golden Age of Hollywood. Later in life, she became a famous actress in Mexican films. She was generally thought to be one of the most beautiful actresses of her era, and was the first Latin American movie star to have international appeal. Silent Film Star: Patsy Ruth Miller.

Patsy Ruth Miller (January 17, 1904 – July 16, 1995). After being discovered by the actress Alla Nazimova at a Hollywood party, Patsy Ruth Miller got her first break with a small role in Camille(1921). A silent film starring Rudolph Valentino and Alla Nazimova.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923). Cast: Lon Chaney as Quasimodo and Patsy Ruth Miller as Esmeralda, and is directed by Wallace Worsley. The film is the most famous adaptation of Victor Hugo's novel, aside from the 1996 Disney adaptation. The film was Universals "Super Jewel" of 1923 and was their most successful silent film. The film is best known  for the beautiful sets that showcase 15th century Paris as well as Lon Chaney's performance and spectacular make-up . Ann Christy

Ann Christy's, first film was a bit part in the film Long Pants(1927), starring Harry Langdon. She performed in film comedies with Bobby Vernon and Neal Burns. In 1928, Christy was chosen by Harold Lloyd to play his leading lady in the comedy Speedy(1928). Following her performance in Speedy, Christy vacationed in New York. When she returned to Hollywood, she discovered that she had been forgotten. She made her last onscreen performance in the film Behind Stone Walls(1932), starring Edward J. Nugent.

GLORIA SWANSON : Fun Facts

Gloria Swanson (March 27, 1899 – April 4, 1983) She was most famous during the silent film era as both an actress and a fashion diva, under Cecil B. DeMille direction. She was also one of the first stars to dispute the Hays Code by producing the banned Sadie Thompson in 1928. In 1929 Swanson smoothly shifted in to talkies with The Trespasser. Personal problems and changing times saw her popularity fade during the 1930s. She is best known today for her role in the film Sunset Boulevard (1950).

She has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Before her death, she sold photographs, copies of films and private papers to the Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas in Austin. The second largest collection of Swanson material is owned by Timothy Rooks.Swanson wanted to see Beyond the Rocks, but the film was considered lost. The film was later found and screened in 2005.

Swanson was a vegetarian. Swanson introduced actor Dirk Benedict about macrobiotic diets when he was battling prostate cancer. He refused conventional therapies and believed healthy eating with his recovery. Later Swanson traveled the United States and helped to promote the book Sugar Blues written by her husband, William Dufty.
