Third Times a Charm for Chronicle of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

The third film for the movie franchise Narnia. The third movie however is minus Susan and Peter Pevensie but the addition of their cousin Eustace was enough to replace the two. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader takes us to a journey with Prince Caspian trying to find the 7 lost lords of Narnia. On his journey he met Edmund, Lucy and of course Eustace who for me was the bright part of the movie, the scene he have with Reepicheep(the mouse if you remember him in the 2nd movie) was funny.

The effect was also good, although I'm not a fan of the 3D in the film, the 2D is well enough for me. The serpent scene was great. The film though was short compare to the first two movies but its still good enough for me, and a great flick for the family to watch.

Vivien Leigh in the heart-breaking WATERLOO BRIDGE (1940)

Vivien Leigh is the featured star on TCM this month. And every Tuesday they will be playing some of her movies. Well, I just watched a film of hers that I had never seen before called Waterloo Bridge and it is an excellent film. Waterloo was the first film Ms. Leigh made after the hugely successful Gone With The Wind. And most people were wondering how could she ever follow-up her performance as Scarlett O'Hara from that film. I mean Scarlett O'Hara is one of the most known characters in the world and Leigh was phenomenal. How could she do anything that would come close to matching that amazing performance. Well, just behold her in Waterloo Bridge as English ballet dancer Myra Lester and she is simply wonderful. Set in England during World War 1, Myra is part of a ballet company that is run by the tyrannical Madame Olga, who is so strict on her girls, that you think they were training for combat. Anyway one fateful night Myra meets Captain Roy Cronin (the always charming Robert Taylor and it's love at first sight. They meet on the Waterloo Bridge.

After a whirlwind romance Roy is called to the front line right before he and Myra are to be married. Once that happens Madame Olga kicks Myra from the ballet company for missing a performance. Myra's best friend Kitty (a sassy Virgina Field) sticks up for her and gets lets go as well. So these two young women are now broke and jobless trying to survive. What makes matters worse, Myra reads the newspaper one day and thinks Roy was killed in combat. Of course it's not true, but she thinks it is. Actually he's been captured by the Germans. So Myra ends up joining her friend Kitty as a street-walker/ prostitute. Myra believing she has lost the love of her life just drifts and drifts, not caring about relationships anymore.

Then one fateful day at Waterloo Station, Myra is there looking to pick out a returning soldier, when Roy comes home and both are shocked to see one another. It's been over a year since they last saw each other. They quickly embrace and plan to get married once again. Of course Roy wants Myra to meet his family in Scotland and Myra accepts and goes with him. But she is torn as to when to tell Roy about her dark past. She eventually confides to Roy's mother, Lady Margaret (a terrific Lucile Watson) and leaves Roy the next morning saying she can't marry him.

Racing home to London, Roy is frantic to find Myra and goes to find Kitty who finally tells him the secret life she and Myra have been leading. He is shocked but still wants to find her. They scour the whole city and can't find her. Myra is actually at the Waterloo Bridge, sad and lonely, wishing things had went another way. I won't ruin the ending for those who have never seen this film, but let's just say it's very emotional. I thought Vivien Leigh was magnificent as Myra. Her performance is more subdued than her Scarlett role, but it is just as good and award worthy. She goes from happy to confused to sad to quirky to dramatic, all in one film with such ease. I would have easily given her another Best Actress award for her performance here. She is just amazing to watch and I now see more than just as Scarlett O'Hara. And she just looks so beautiful. The scene where she is standing by the church doors waiting on Roy and the pastor is worth the price of admission alone. She looks directly at the camera and you're hypnotized by her beauty. I can't wait to see more of her films this month on TCM because now I am hooked on Vivien.

As for the supporting cast, Taylor is charming and romantic as usual. Virgina Field as Kitty gets most of the best lines in the film. Lucile Watson is quite good as Lady Margaret. And Maria Ouspenskaya is unbelievably stern as Madame Olga. Waterloo Bridge is now one of my favorite films of all time. A heart-breaking film, but also an amazing film. One of the best.

INFESTATION

I was not even sure to rent this one, just looking at the cover made me think maybe this was an old movie, with a new cover in it hahahahaha, but what the heck, i love monster movie and all.

After watching the movie, well it was great, kinda like the "Eight Legged Freaks" movie i saw lot long ago, although that movie was way better than this one. "Infestation" is a science fiction horror movie, what I like about this movie is that unlike other monster movie wherein you can only see the monster at the end or only part of it, in "Infestation" you get to see the monster early!! and the special effects are also good in this movie.

The only downfall for me is the ending. Maybe they are planning a sequel for this one. But to sum things up, its a nice movie to rent and watch with your friends.

CASE 39

Case 39 centers on an idealistic worker who saves an abused 10 year old girl from her parents only to discover that the girl is not as innocent as she thinks. Playing the worker Emily Jenkins is Renee Zellweger who did a decent acting on her part but for me credit should be given to Jodelle Ferland who plays Lillith Sullivan.

I mean the girl was cute but scary, especially the part when she confronted Douglas (Bradley Cooper) and also the scene between her and Emily, when she tried to count Emily to get out from under the bed.

My only disappointment on this film is the way Lillith was killed , I mean she can break down a door with several locks but cant hold off Emily when she was being pushed down while the car is drowning. The movie is a decent thriller with some great scare but still not above the movie Orphan which for me is still the best. But still this movie would not be a disappointment if you buy a copy or even rent one.

CARRIERS

It was kind of dragging at first, the slow pace of the movie sometimes would make you go to sleep. But the story of the movie itself was nice. It has a lot to say about being human, on how far you would go to save a love one? are you willing to sacrifice your love one just to survive. A movie that if in reality would test your bonds with the person you love and care. But for me its still a nice movie to watch.

BITCH SLAP

I just rented this one because of the cover hahahaha shame on me. But to my surprise it was an entertaining movie, entertaining to the point that you got this 3 hot babes Hel, Trixie and Camero beating the living shit out of each other and some hot steamy scene from Hel (Erin Cummings) and Trixie (Julia Voth).

Just don't mind the over used of green screen in the movie. Just focus on the babe. Just stop being a critique for once and just turn off your brains and droll over the ladies. My suggestion for this one, just rent it and watch it with some friends.

CHANGELING

I rented this movie because of two things, Angelina Jolie and Clint Eastwood. The movie is about a single mom (Angelina Jolie) who after she returned home from work, discovered her son Walter is missing. She tried to called the police for help to find her son but to no avail. Then after several months the police claimed they have found her son. But upon meeting the boy, she immediately notice that the boy the police has bought is not her son, but the police insisted that the boy they have found is her son.

Angelina Jolie played the part of the mother beautifully, showing emotions of a mother not quitting to find her child. The movie though runs about 2 hours and a half, but with the story like this, you wouldn't even notice how long the movie was.

You should definitely get a copy of this, or rent it if your tight on the budget. It a nice movie to watch.

VERTIGE

It was a nice movie, at the start if i may say so. The movie is like "Wrong Turn" combine maybe with "Cliffhanger" or "The Hills have Eyes". Why I like the first few minutes of the movie? because of the breathtaking scenes, I just thought wow maybe this movie is worth seeing . Then came the 2nd half of the movie where I think the writer just ran out of ideas and just thought hmmm maybe lets just copy "Wrong Turn" because hey where at the woods. For horror fans out there, it would be better just to rent this one.

TRIANGLE

I was hesitant to rent this one but since i like thriller type of movie so its ok, and I'm glad i did. The movie is like the combination of Death Ship and the Twilight Zone. After watching it, i had to watch it again just to really understand it. But still it still raises so many questions on my mind. This movie is great and presents a challenge to the minds of the audience who will watch it. If you like the series of Twilight Zone, then you wont be disappointed with this one. Its mind boggling, that will keep you thinking, guessing and guessing.

ARMOUR OF GOD

My top Jackie Chan movie, why i like it? because this is the time where action scenes are done with out the CG effects that is being used today. It shows Jackie Chan's acrobatics and fight skills and had some of the best fighting scenes i had ever seen, especially the scene against the 4 women in high heels. And this was also the film that almost killed Jackie Chan because of a stunt that went wrong, which can be seen on the end of the movie where all stunts and bloopers will be shown. If your a fan of Jackie's movie today better see this classic film of his. Oh and by the way i heard rumors that there will be a third installment of this movie. I just hope it will top the first 2.

2012

What i like about this movie, is the effects, the thrill and the action. Don't mind the story, the character depth cause you'll just end up having a headache. Just try focusing on the action and the abundant of special effects the movie brings. Although I hope they would have given much time to explain the Mayan Calendar which was mention in the movie. Watch this movie with friends and turn off for the meantime the movie critic in you, and just watch famous landmarks getting destroyed, hero outrunning mass destruction. Because if you decide to turn on that movie critic in you, the movie which runs almost 3 hours would be a torture. But if you turn it off just like I said earlier you wouldn't notice those long hours.
